Atlantic Health is Seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for the Neurocritical Care Service Team
Atlantic Health, one of New Jersey's largest non-profit healthcare networks, is seeking an Advanced Practice Professional (NP/PA) to join our team of physicians, APPs, and fellows at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center. The primary role of the Advanced Practice Professional is to provide clinical management for critically ill complex neuro patients utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards in collaboration with the Neuro Critical Care attending physician. The APP will also be expected to assist with emergency management of neuro critical care patients outside of the ICU as needed. A 24-hour coverage model will be divided amongst multiple APP’s.
Job Responsibilities
Job schedule is Full Time Hybrid of days and nights, twelve-hour shifts
Perform comprehensive neurologic and critical care assessments
Manage patients in the Neuro ICU, including: Acute Ischemic Stroke, Hemorrhagic Stroke (ICH,SAH), Large Vessel occlusion and post-thrombectomy patients, status epilepticus, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Venous Thrombosis, Cerebral edema/elevated ICP, CNS infections, Neuromuscular respiratory failure
NIH stroke scale (NIHSS) assessment
Coordinate care with stroke neurology, neurosurgery, IR and rehab teams
Provide /coordinate clinical care for Neurocritical care medical surgical ICU and Stepdown Patients
In collaboration with attending physician and interprofessional team, round daily on patients to assess, diagnose, plan treatment, set priorities and outcomes, and evaluate the effectiveness and cost efficiency of patient care
Assess patients for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiates emergency interventions to stabilize the patient when appropriate
Analyze clinical practice patterns to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to provider team, nursing staff, and other relevant healthcare providers.
Document in the patients’ chart all relevant data including but not limited to results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions; communications with provider team
Coordinate discharge planning and transitions of care
Support thrombectomy-capable certification standards
Role models competence in all nurse practitioner / physician assistant advanced skills
Provide family-centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of the patient
Support IRB-approved clinical research /trials through a variety of activities
Perform and participate in quality performance improvement activities and clinical research
Serve as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing, healthcare team members, and the larger community
Become proficient in procedures i.e. central line placement, arterial line placement and lumbar punctures
Interpretation of invasive hemodynamic monitoring
Become an expert in interpretation of Neuroimaging
