Reporting to the Oncology Pharmacy Supervisor, and under the general direction of Department Director and in conjunction with direct supervision by oncology staff pharmacists, assists in the preparation and filling of all medications necessary for oncology service line for inpatient and outpatient services. Supports all department initiatives and daily workflow/ maintenance of oncology satellite and all patients.

Job Duties

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
  • Calculation and preparation of Oncology medications following hospital guidelines and utilizing appropriate sterile technique according to USP 797/ 800 regulations including: Perform critical pharmacy calculations, perform Non-sterile compounding, perform Sterile compounding and batching, utilize Aseptic technique during sterile compounding, satisfactorily pass validation testing as required by various regulatory agencies, proper disposal of any waste/ expired medication/ supply.
  • Utilizes various software programs and technical equipment including: Pharmacy Information Systems, Laminar flow hood, Automated IV fluid pump, Automated Packager / Repackaging / Label systems, Automated Dispensing Cabinets, Organization intranet (Bing) / Email.
  • Performs various pharmacy functions such as: Medication dispensing and distribution to patient areas, Reorder and Restock of pharmacy inventory, Restock inventory in department an nursing unit and restocks returns, Evaluates stock for expired medications, Performs necessary monitoring and documentation.
  • Performs various billing/ crediting functions to ensure proper billing of all medications dispensed to patients to comply with hospital finance policies . Ensures proper documentation of waste.
  • Reviews and completes assigned inspections every other month and maintains all competencies required by the department and the hospital to ensure all jobs performed are done properly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of previous hospital pharmacy technician experience.
  • 1 year of Sterile compounding experience
  • Strong knowledge of metric system conversions and calculation of ratio and proportions. Passing score of 90% on calculation exam, aseptic preparation exam, safe handling of hazardous drugs and practicum.
  • CPhT - Certified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Salary Range

$18.66 to $26.60 Hourly

The actual hiring rate will be determined based on candidate experience, skills and qualifications. This position is not eligible for an annual incentive.
