Job Summary
The Manager, Strategic Initiatives, within Global Business Development, applies a science-forward, external innovation, and finance-informed lens to translate breakthrough biology into actionable BD opportunities. The role evaluates external assets, platforms, and AI-enabled R&D partnerships across modalities and stages, integrating scientific rationale, strategic fit, development risk, valuation, and enterprise value to support diligence, deal recommendations, and long-term pipeline growth.
Job Description
Responsibilities
Strategy. Establish strong working relationships with members of the R&D Development organization including within the individual GPTs, Precision Medicine, strategic task forces and working groups. Collaborate with these groups to ensure understanding of the R&D research portfolio, jointly develop strategic plans and support collaboration and/or in-licensing target lists. Work independently and with the competitive intelligence team to create and update technology specific landscape overviews to monitor key opportunity classes as they mature. Sourcing. Establish and expand a network of trusted relationships with academic institutions, biotech companies, capital allocators, and other pharmaceutical companies to access new opportunities. Actively participate in and present at national and international pharmaceutical partnering meetings to expand Daiichi Sankyo’s exposure and awareness. Conduct scouting activities for technology collaboration and product in-licensing opportunities. Coordinate feedback on opportunities from relevant internal constituencies. Assessment. Provide justification for internal review of external opportunities based on scientific assessment, therapeutic evaluation and feasibility. Support the internal scientific review and feasibility process once a decision is made to pursue confidential discussions. Work to support the evaluation and feasibility analysis and coordinate full overview of in-licensing opportunities. Prepare documents for submission and presentation to management. Report to the global Senior Licensing Committee on the status of key opportunities and seek approval for advancing projects and submission of non-binding term sheets and other indications of interest. Assist as requested on other projects, evaluation of departmental processes and priorities, management presentations and other activities.

Experience Qualifications
1 or More Years 3 years of experience in science or the life science business that establish a deep understanding of and capability in the process of discovering, developing and marketing pharmaceutical products and/or the process of securing value from external innovation in the pharmaceutical industry; inclusive of consulting and investment firms; 1 year of each preferred. required
Relevant masters' degree can substitute for 1 year of combined experience, doctoral degree for 3.


Travel Requirements
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time. Travel to scientific, clinical and partnering conferences

Salary Range:

USD$136,080.00 - USD$204,120.00
